If still using Classic Blogger, you would have to add the mailto code in the appropriate place in the sidebar. If you're using the Layout template, you'll do the following:

Save Changes when you've finished with the html in the page element.

ReplyDeleteI am pleased to have found this information...not easy to find elsewhere! This is always where I come if I am stuck! I have added the code, obviously changing the e-mail address...but when I try it out and click it, Outlook Express only pops up briefly before being closed down again, even though I have told my pop-up blocker this site is ok. Do you know why this might be? Also, do you know if there is a way of adding an 'e-mail me' link without actually revealing my e-mail address?

I've always wondered why anyone uses Outlook, but tastes differ. No, not sure why the popup is a problem for you. Remember that some of us, when we click on your mailto get our own emails, not Outlook Pooty Dog!
ReplyDeleteIf you use the mailto, your email address will not show on screen, although it IS available to anyone who examines your source code. I'm unsure if there is any further way to hide it, but I am a very amateur Expert, and there's always some people who know more than me--if you spend a few minutes at it, you may become one of them!
The e-mail address shows up at the bottom of the screen if you have your mouse on the link...but I've solved this just by opening a googlemail account specifically for the blog.
ReplyDeleteOutlook Express...I didn't know there was any alternative! This is just what my computer automatically does! I am not very technically minded I am afraid :o(
I have to admit to doing it the hard way. If I click on your mailto, I get Yahoo email, but I don't care much to use them any more, so I just copy your email address and go back to Gmail, where I am more comfortable and where nearly all my email resides now. That doesn't help you with your popup not staying up!
ReplyDeleteWith having the mailto link in your blog, as you mentioned, people can get your email address. Has your SPAM increased ever since you did this? I'd like to add this mailto, but pretty reluctant due to concerns get spam.

No, that hasn't happened to me, though I suppose that it could. Since the mailto doesn't display the address in plain sight, I guess it prevents or limits the number of automated spammers who can feed on you!
