EMERGENCY STEPS

Kick-starting The Blog
1. Refresh (F5) or Ctrl-F5
2. Clear cache (delete temporary Internet files) and cookies in Tools-Internet Options.
3. Add a question mark to the end of your blog's internet address in the address box and see if it will show the latest update. (Can also be done with other people's url's in the address window.)
4. Republish (if in classic Blogger)
5. Reboot
6. Log out and log back in again (may change to an untroubled server)
7. Change browser (IE, Firefox, others)

---Not necessary to do all of these at once!---

Blogger may make problems for some computers about accepting cookies, especially when you are using the new versions of Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers. Difficulties with accepting scripts may be caused by security systems, antivirus programs, firewalls, and some add-ons. Check all your settings.

You may need to change your browser settings, or to list www.blogger.com and blogger.com as "trusted sites" in your Internet Options-Security so that scripting can occur.

Mailto, Or "Email Me" Link

If still using Classic Blogger, you would have to add the mailto code in the appropriate place in the sidebar. If you're using the Layout template, you'll do the following:

Add an email link in your blog:
1. On the Navbar, click on Customize.
2. Click on Add A Page Element.
3. Click Add To Blog under your choice of page element.
4. for adding a mailto, add an html/javascript page element.
5. Put the following html code into it:
<a href="mailto:ratsouthern@gmail.com">You can email me here!</a>

Of course, put your address in it, not mine! You can change the "Email me" wording.

Save Changes when you've finished with the html in the page element.

Format for above Mailto picture link:

<a href="mailto:YourEmail@what.com"><img src="http://FullUrlOfPhoto" alt="Click to email Mortimer Snerd"></a>

  1. Thank you! I added an "email link" to my blog using your code. I appreciate the help.

  2. I am pleased to have found this information...not easy to find elsewhere! This is always where I come if I am stuck! I have added the code, obviously changing the e-mail address...but when I try it out and click it, Outlook Express only pops up briefly before being closed down again, even though I have told my pop-up blocker this site is ok. Do you know why this might be? Also, do you know if there is a way of adding an 'e-mail me' link without actually revealing my e-mail address?

    Thanks in advance :o)

  3. I've always wondered why anyone uses Outlook, but tastes differ. No, not sure why the popup is a problem for you. Remember that some of us, when we click on your mailto get our own emails, not Outlook Pooty Dog!

If you use the mailto, your email address will not show on screen, although it IS available to anyone who examines your source code. I'm unsure if there is any further way to hide it, but I am a very amateur Expert, and there's always some people who know more than me--if you spend a few minutes at it, you may become one of them!

  4. The e-mail address shows up at the bottom of the screen if you have your mouse on the link...but I've solved this just by opening a googlemail account specifically for the blog.

Outlook Express...I didn't know there was any alternative! This is just what my computer automatically does! I am not very technically minded I am afraid :o(

  5. I have to admit to doing it the hard way. If I click on your mailto, I get Yahoo email, but I don't care much to use them any more, so I just copy your email address and go back to Gmail, where I am more comfortable and where nearly all my email resides now. That doesn't help you with your popup not staying up!

  6. No, that hasn't happened to me, though I suppose that it could. Since the mailto doesn't display the address in plain sight, I guess it prevents or limits the number of automated spammers who can feed on you!
