Above is the usual correct answer, but be careful about choosing it. It works, but you'll never stop working at it. I'd rather not live my life in reverse. If I had a 100 post diary or story to tell, that would be fine, but some blogs go on for hundreds or thousands of posts, and that's a long commitment to reverse order!
FOR CLASSIC BLOGGER:
See the Blogger Help File below:
How do I change the order of my archive links?
FOR NEW BLOGGER:
It is now possible to reverse, at least with some degree of satisfaction, the order of the posts in your blog. I have only done limited testing of it so far, but I was trying hard! Read further, then check it out yourself and make up your own mind.
1. If you are logged in, go to the "crossed tools" under the Archives section.
2. Click on tools.
3. Click on Daily in the Archive Frequency list.
4. In Options, click on Show Oldest Posts First.
5. In Style, click on Flat List, Dropdown Menu, or Hierarchy. (I have listed them in the order which got the best results for full reverse listing. Flat List was best.)
6. Click on Save Changes.
In the best choice, Flat List and Daily, you'll get a list of the individual dates that are reversed, but you have to click on them one at a time. You click on it, go to the post and read it, then return to the Archives to click the next post. It's all in the reverse order, but you have to click a lot (I thought) rather than just sit and read some sensible number of posts before having to click further. Might be all right for book chapters, but for short blogs, it would be obnoxious. So, I thought it was faulty.
After all this, you still have the problem of the front page, which appears to display in the normal order, not reversed order. So, you could leave only the most recent post on the front page (select 1 in Settings-Archive). Or you could select 0 and have none on the front page, just the Archive! Either way, you might put a page element at the top of the front page that spells out your Archive order and how to use it.
Maybe someone else can make it work better! Anyway, below is a screenshot of what I found to be the most correct settings. (Be sure to enlarge.)

wow..Thanks...very interesting.When
ReplyDeleteI figured out it was gonna be doing that I didn't know what to do.Now I do
Mike
I've done it and LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThat quickly, mama? My hat's off.
ReplyDeleteMike, you got it straight now? I barely do!
ReplyDeleteok, tried looking under archiving but only two options Archive Frequency and Enable Post Pages. No sign of crossed tools - any ideas?
ReplyDeleteThis is for New Blogger.
ReplyDeleteFrom your Dashboard click on "View Blog" for the blog you want to customize. Below the Archive info should be an icon of a screwdriver crossed with a wrench. That's the "crossed tools" icon Ron's talking about.
It still doesn't change the order of the posts as displayed, even if the archive is set up to archive daily. If you have two entries for the same day, the elder of the two will appear below the younger.
That's right; the only thing that gets reversed is the order that the Archive is displayed in, never the order of the posts. Don't ask me why they made it a half-ass step, maybe it's too hard to program it. No one is ever satisfied with it, so I wish I'd neve pointed it out.
ReplyDeleteI searched the whole of my blog for the archive tool icon, 2 days later realised I couldn't find it because I didn't have one. So I've now just 'added a page element' for an 'archive', and clicked the boxes as suggested, yet still the newest posts are at the top of the page!!
ReplyDeleteWhats going wrong? It's F**king annoying!
Cheers.
As stated (unfortunately) the best you can get is a reverse order of Archive, not a reverse order of displayed posts. Your blog, at best, would resemble a Table Of Contents to a book, and then your readers could click on the first chapter first, the second chapter second, etc.
ReplyDeletecool, it works.
ReplyDeletepity I can't just show my actual posts in reverse though. ANy genius out there who thinks they can help, would appreciate it.
ciao x
this was all i wanted and I knew it could happen, I've done it before. Big Big help-thanks
ReplyDeleteWell I've tried this and it "sort of" works, albeit listing the posts in reverse order on the archive. It is a pretty shlocky setup when the arhive is not interconnected with the actual display of the posts. My blog has an order of presentation that I cannot get merely by displaying the archive in the proper order. It shouldn't be that difficult to construct and archive that both lists and displays the posts in the order specified by the blog owner. It would seem to be merely a matter of reindexing the post database according to the owner's parameters.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I haven't been able to figure out how to create a front page for my blog (on which I can display a Welcome message). Can anyone help? Thanks.
I can't defend or explain why Blogger doesn't find it important enough to get around to doing. I just assume that's the trouble rather than that they find it difficult to program.
ReplyDeleteAs for your front page, anybody has one unless they restrict their # of posts allowed on that page. If you then use an html/javascript page element to create a "Welcome" message, I can't see what would be lacking. Email me, though, if you mean there is some other problem.
Thank you..i tried your technique to my blog..as u said , it shows older posts in sidebar archive but its not showing at the page..tell me how to show older posts on main page not at side bar archive.visit my blog The Vintage Acoustic Guitar Blog and suggest me

Never saw it done, but somebody at Blogger Help Group might know how--it may be just me who doesn't know. (In general, I only know the things that I did on my own blogs. I'm not a "real" expert.)
